The Founders of the World Hockey Association announced today that the league has terminated the franchise operating agreement with Mr. Jean Paul Boily and the Quebec Nordiks.
All players chosen by Quebec in the July draft are now considered free agents.
According to its press release, the Founders claim they have determined that Mr. Boily has been unable to secure adequate financing to the satisfaction of the World Hockey Association.
"Mr. Boily has come to the league on numerous occasions requesting special financial concessions and we have always agreed because of our desire to have Quebec as part of the WHA," said WHA Co-Founder Allan Howell.
"The fans of Quebec deserve WHA hockey and we will now explore all options to make this a reality."
The WHA expects teams to begin play in late November in as many as 8 markets.
Meanwhile, the Toronto Toros may also lose out on a franchise, as they have been unsuccessful in negotiating a lease for a building to play in.
