Rick Munro, the owner of the WHA's Dallas franchise, announced yesterday the team will take on the name Americans.
The chosen name was a direct result of a website poll voted on by hockey fans across the Metroplex and beyond.
"We are extremely excited that the team name is a perfect representation of what we will achieve," Munro said. "Dallas already claims 'America's Football Team.' We will be America's Hockey Team."
The Dallas Americans are expected to introduce their head coach and general manager in the coming weeks, where Munro will also showcase the team logo and colors, which reflect a combination of American and Texas traditions.
The Americans will take to the ice at Reunion Arena in late October.
