Franchise owners in the World Hockey Association announced today their Draft Exemptions for the 2004-05 season.
Each team was allowed one selection prior to the NHL/AHL Free Agent Draft on July 17, 2004.
The Dallas franchise selected veteran Brett Hull, the Detroit Gladiators chose defenseman Chris Chelios, Florida picked the NHL’s leading scorer Martin St. Louis, Halifax took Glen Murray, Hamilton opted for Paul Kariya, the Quebec team went for Mike Ribeiro and Toronto got their holds on blueliner Chris Phillips.
Hull, Chelios, Murray and Kariya are currently unrestricted free agents in the NHL, while Murray and Ribeiro are restricted.
Each WHA team will draft 30 NHL/AHL Free Agents on July 17th, 2004 and 30 Entry Level Players on July 18th, 2004.
