Top 25 Available Players
As of  March 5, 2014 :: 5:00pm ET

With the NHL trade deadline quickly approaching (Mar. 5, 2014), TFP has outlined 25 of the top names rumored to be available for trade through various newspapers, radio and television reports, cyberspace and our own league-wide sources. Last season, 14 of the 25 players listed were traded. Two seasons ago, 17 of the 25 players listed were traded.

As part of TFP's Trade Deadline Coverage, this page will be updated regularly and TFP's panel of experts will outline the values of each athlete. As the days inch closer to the deadline, some players may climb or fall off the list, while others may be added. Teams reportedly showing interest will also be added and adjusted as more information becomes available.

Teams Reportedly Showing Interest Status
Thomas Vanek, LW
Cap Hit: $5.75M | Term Left: 0 | Age: 30

Vanek has played well alongside John Tavares and has enjoyed his time on Long Island, so far.

The Islanders will try hard to re-sign him to a long-term contract extension, but if they can't sign him and they're out of the playoff race, they'll consider their options and look at moving him.

Matt Moulson, LW
Cap Hit: $3.133M | Term Left: 0 | Age: 30

Moulson's contract makes him a very desirable target for Stanley Cup contenders looking for some extra fire power up front.

The Sabres are expected to move him by D-Day, even though he's enjoyed his time in Buffalo. A package of a top-prospect and a first-rounder is expected.

Ryan Kesler, C/RW
Cap Hit: $5M | Term Left: 2 | Age: 29

Though news just recently broke, Kesler asked the Canucks for a trade earlier in the season. The Canucks have been trying to convince him to stick around, but it seems a deal is now inevitable, despite his agent's denial, though it may not happen by March 5 . Kesler owns a no-trade clause and has to approve any deal Vancouver tries to complete.

Not yet traded
Ryan Callahan, RW
Cap Hit: $4.275M | Term Left: 0 | Age: 28

Contract talks between the Rangers and Callahan's camp are ongoing and optimism over a new deal isn't being met by the player's side.

Many believe Callahan will be traded by the deadline, but there's still a chance the two sides iron out a contract. Interest in Callahan, though, has risen.

Andrew MacDonald, D
Cap Hit: $550k | Term Left: 0 | Age: 27

MacDonald is looking for a big raise on his next contract, but it doesn't sound like he'll get it from the New York Islanders.

Islanders GM Garth Snow has balked at MacDonald's asking price (believed to be north of $4M per year), and is likely to move the blueliner by the deadline.

Ryan Miller, G
Cap Hit: $6.25M | Term Left: 0 | Age: 33

The odds of the Sabres shipping Miller out of Buffalo by the trade deadline appear to be pretty good.

All signs point to Miller leaving the Sabres in the summer as a free agent, and even though the market is somewhat questionable right now, Sabres GM Tim Murray is trying to make a move happen.

Ales Hemsky, RW
Cap Hit: $5M | Term Left: 0 | Age: 30

Hemsky expects to be moved, and so does just about everyone else in hockey. The Oilers are going to be going through a significant shake-up, and dealing veterans like Hemsky is part of the process.

Teams looking for a playmaking winger will be knocking on Edmonton's door, in hopes of acquiring Hemsky.

Mike Cammalleri, LW/C
Cap Hit: $6M | Term Left: 0 | Age: 31

The Flames want to know if Cammalleri will re-sign with them as soon as possible, because if he wants to test the free agent market on July 1, Calgary will move him by the deadline. Cammalleri can list of to 7 teams he won't accept a trade to, but we anticipate him being dealt to one of the other 22 clubs.

Not yet traded
Martin Brodeur, G
Cap Hit: $4.5M | Term Left: 0 | Age: 41

Believe it or not, but Martin Brodeur is willing to move on from New Jersey.

He's at the end of his career and wants another shot at the Stanley Cup. He'll accept a trade to a Cup contender, if the Devils choose to deal him.

Not yet traded
Alexander Edler, D
Cap Hit: $5M | Term Left: 5 | Age: 27

The Vancouver Canucks are once again shopping Edler, who has a no-trade clause. Edler was almost dealt during the NHL Draft last summer, and could be on the move by the deadline.

The Canucks will be looking for a young NHL-proven player, a top prospect and high draft pick for Edler.

Not yet traded
Christian Ehrhoff, D
Cap Hit: $4M | Term Left: 6 | Age: 31

As TFP first reported, the Sabres are fielding calls for Ehrhoff, who submitted a short list of teams he would not accept a move to.

The Sabres are looking to completely revamp their roster and have multiple players available. Ehrhoff would cost a young defenseman and draft pick.

Not yet traded
Marian Gaborik, LW/RW
Cap Hit: $7.5M | Term Left: 0 | Age: 31

The Blue Jackets have been tearing it up without Gaborik in the lineup, and while he'd add value to their roster, when healthy, the team might be better served selling him and his hefty salary cap hit, and use that freed up cap space to complete other deals to help their playoff chances.

Stephane Robidas, D
Cap Hit: $3.3M | Term Left: 0 | Age: 37

Even though he's injured and won't be back until the middle of the month, the Stars are exploring the possibility of trading Robidas.

This veteran defenseman could bring in a solid package from Stanley Cup contenders looking for a rock on the blueline.

Ray Whitney, LW
Cap Hit: $4.5M | Term Left: 0 | Age: 41

It sounds like the Stars will be moving Whitney in the near future, as multiple reports have suggested that he would welcome a change in just his first season with the Stars.

Cup contenders could use his veteran presence in the lineup and will be calling.

Not yet traded
David Legwand, C
Cap Hit: $4.5M | Term Left: 0 | Age: 33

Legwand's future in Nashville seems to be up in the air. He's an unrestricted free agent this summer and could look to try his chances with a Stanley Cup contender down the stretch. However, the Predators haven't approached him yet about waiving his no-trade and he could stay if the Preds don't acquire a young NHLer for him.

Roberto Luongo, G
Cap Hit: $5.333M | Term Left: 8 | Age: 34

We're not prepared to put Luongo in the Top 25 list, officially, but we'll slot him in the Honorable Mentions, for the time being. The Canucks have explored the possibility of trading Luongo, again. We'll see what comes out of it, but we know he'd still love a change of scenery. Will he be open to expanding his list of teams he'd accept a deal to?

Evander Kane, LW
Cap Hit: $5.25M | Term Left: 4 | Age: 22

Like Jordan Eberle and the Oilers, Kane isn't being dealt by the Winnipeg Jets unless it's a "hockey trade," as in talent-for-talent.

The Jets aren't selling their top players, but are willing to listen to offers. Several teams have been calling about Kane, and will keep knocking.

Not yet traded
Martin St. Louis, RW
Cap Hit: $5.625M | Term Left: 1 | Age: 38

St. Louis asked to be traded after he was left on Team Canada, originally, and had separate meetings with GM Steve Yzerman and Lightning owner Jeff Vinik about his future with the team. He owns a no-movement clause and will ultimately dictate where he ends up, but the only team he's willing to go to is the Rangers.

Sam Gagner, C
Cap Hit: $4.8M | Term Left: 2 | Age: 24

The Oilers were entertaining calls for Gagner last season and are doing the same thing again this year.

Oilers GM Craig MacTavish want to build his blueline and moving Gagner could certainly help his cause. The Oilers aren't selling Gagner, they want NHL-proven talent coming back their way, if he's dealt.

Not yet traded
Steve Ott, C/LW
Cap Hit: $2.95M | Term Left: 0 | Age: 31

Many believe Ott will sign an extension with the Sabres, but if he wants a shot at another team, all he has to do is ask his new GM.

The Sabres are rebuilding and while they'd like Ott in their roster, they could move him at the deadline and look to bring him back to Buffalo in the summer.

Lee Stempniak, RW
Cap Hit: $2.5M | Term Left: 0 | Age: 30

As the Calgary Flames continue their rebuild, moving someone like Stempniak could result in a solid return of youth and prospects.

The decision will be up to Flames president of hockey operations Brian Burke, who looks to solidify a base for his new GM (whenever he's hired) to build off of.

Jaroslav Halak, G
Cap Hit: $3.75M | Term Left: 0 | Age: 28

The Sabres acquired Halak from St. Louis with the intention of trading him to another team. Minnesota was considered an option, until they got Ilya Bryzgalov.

Halak is an unrestricted free agent this summer and won't re-sign with the Sabres. Buffalo wants to ship him out for draft picks and prospects.

Rene Bourque, RW/LW
Cap Hit: $3.333M | Term Left: 2 | Age: 32

The Canadiens are looking to bolster their roster, and moving Bourque allows them to make room to add to their lineup. Shedding his salary would also help.

Montreal is shopping Bourque, but you'd have to think they'd need to take on a player with a similar salary in return.

  Not yet traded
Ryan Smyth, LW
Cap Hit: $2.25M | Term Left: 0 | Age: 37

Word out of Edmonton is that Smyth would welcome a move to a Cup contender, for a shot at his first championship ring.

The Oilers will likely get draft picks in exchange for Smyth.

Not yet traded
Henrik Tallinder, D
Cap Hit: $3.375M | Term Left: 0 | Age: 35

Tallinder's an unrestricted free agent at season's end and a Cup contender could use his veteran presence on their backend down the stretch.

The Sabres are willing to listen, and deal involving draft picks will likely do the trick.

(Alphabetical Order)

Player Info.

Teams Reportedly Showing Interest Status
Dan Girardi, D
Cap Hit: $3.325M | Term Left: 0 | Age: 29

Girardi's future with the Rangers will likely be determined before the trade deadline. Either he signs a new extension or he's shipped out for another defenseman.

If a contract isn't reached, there's a slim chance the Rangers keep him, if the team is in contention.

Brad Boyes, RW
Cap Hit: $1M | Term Left: 0 | Age: 31

Boyes' contract is almost as attractive as Moulson's, making him a prime trade target by March 5.

Florida Panthers GM Dale Tallon is trying to get the 31-year-old signed to a multi-year extension, and a deal appears to be on the horizon.

Dan Boyle, D
Cap Hit: $6.667M | Term Left: 0 | Age: 37

Boyle wants to sign an extension with the Sharks and wrap up his playing career in San Jose, but the two sides remain far from a deal.

He's set to become an unrestricted free agent July 1, and a trade this season might be far fetched, considering San Jose's position in the standings.

--- Not yet traded
Dustin Brown, LW
Cap Hit: $3.175M | Term Left: 8 | Age: 29

The Kings are actively looking for another scoring winger, but being close to the salary cap could force them to be fairly creative on the trade front. Captain Dustin Brown has struggled at parts this season, prompting speculation that he could be dealt to help shake up the roster, though sources tell TFP a trade is unlikely.

--- Not yet traded
Jordan Eberle, RW
Cap Hit: $6M | Term Left: 5 | Age: 23

Eberle isn't going anywhere unless the Oilers pull the trigger on a major trade involving another young superstar, most likely a defenseman. The Oilers want to retool, and you've got to give to get. There are no guarantees Eberle's moved (we'd be surprised), but teams keep calling and you have to wonder if the right offer is presented, GM Craig MacTavish will consider it.

Not yet traded
Martin Erat, LW/RW
Cap Hit: $4.5M | Term Left: 1 | Age: 32

If it were up to Erat, he would've been traded right after the exhibition season back in September.

He's never meshed well with the Capitals' system under head coach Adam Oates and the Caps have been trying to accommodate his trade request.

Tomas Fleischmann, RW/LW
Cap Hit: $4.5 | Term Left: 1 | Age: 29

Panthers GM Dale Tallon has multiple assets to dangle as trade bait, and he's been dangling Fleischmann since last season.

With one-year left on his contract beyond this season, the hit isn't that huge for some teams. It all comes down to what Tallon is asking for.

Not yet traded
Jake Gardiner, D
Cap Hit: $875k | Term Left: 0 | Age: 23

Similar to the Leafs' situation with Nazem Kadri, youngster Jake Gardiner could be dealt if Toronto can make a serious upgrade to its roster.

The Leafs' depth on the blueline seems to have the team thinking Gardiner could be expendable, if the right offer comes along.

  Not yet traded
Jaromir Jagr, RW
Cap Hit: $2M | Term Left: 0 | Age: 41

Jagr has said that he won't ask to be moved if the Devils fall down the standings, but if the Devils fall out of the playoff race by the trade deadline, GM Lou Lamoriello will look to move Jagr to a Cup contender.

It's entirely up to him, though, even though he doesn't have a no-trade clause.

Not yet traded
Dmitry Kulikov, D
Cap Hit: $2.5M | Term Left: 0 | Age: 23

The Panthers have been shopping Kulikov all season and there's a chance he'll get moved by the deadline.

Kulikov is set to become a restricted free agent this summer and it sounds like he's looking for a change of scenery.

Not yet traded
Nazem Kadri, C
Cap Hit: $2.9M | Term Left: 1 | Age: 23

The Maple Leafs want to upgrade their center position and are willing to move Kadri, as part of a package, in order to do that. Leafs GM Dave Nonis has other assets he can package with Kadri, but unless a team decides to sell a top-line center, the Leafs will likely look at making this type of trade in the off-season, perhaps around the NHL Draft in late-June.

Not yet traded
Andrew Ladd, LW
Cap Hit: $4.4M | Term Left: 2 | Age: 28

Ladd's in the same boat as his teammate, Kane. He's not going anywhere unless the Jets get some good talent coming back their way.

With a coaching change working, so far, for the Jets, GM Kevin Cheveldayoff is now looking to tinker with his roster, but moving his captain would be costly.

Not yet traded
P.A. Parenteau, RW
Cap Hit: $4M | Term Left: 2 | Age: 30

The Avs are looking to tinker with their roster and moving Parenteau appears to be something they're considering.

Colorado wants to bolster its defensive corps, but could also look for a two-way forward in exchange for Parenteau, even though he's said he'd like to stay.

Not yet traded
Drew Stafford, LW
Cap Hit: $4M | Term Left: 1 | Age: 28

The Sabres wouldn't mind trading Stafford and his $4 million cap hit, but they haven't had much luck, to this point.

Stafford's name popped up in trade talks last season and continued to pop up as the trade deadline nears.

--- Not yet traded
Jason Spezza, C
Cap Hit: $7M | Term Left: 1 | Age: 30

As TFP was the first to report, the Ottawa Senators are exploring the trade market for captain Jason Spezza, who has a no-trade clause.

It's unclear if a deal will be ironed out before the deadline, and if that's the case, the Senators will continue discussions during the off-season.

--- Not yet traded
Paul Stastny, C
Cap Hit: $6.6M | Term Left: 0 | Age: 28

We're inching closer to the trade deadline, which means more Paul Stastny trade rumors will pop up. This year, however, the Avalanche isn't likely to move him.

He's a UFA this summer, so either way, this could be his last season in Colorado.

--- Not yet traded
Cam Ward, G
Cap Hit: $6.3M | Term Left: 2 | Age: 29

If Ward's moved, it's more likely to happen during the off-season. But, that doesn't mean the Hurricanes aren't testing the waters now. Ward has a no-trade clause, but sources have told TFP he'll consider a change of scenery. The Hurricanes have now signed Anton Khudobin, which could make Ward more available.

Not yet traded
Nail Yakupov, RW
Cap Hit: $925k | Term Left: 1 | Age: 28=0

The Oilers continue to insist they will not trade Yakupov, but if it came down to him or Eberle, many believe the Oilers will move the 2012 first-overall pick, instead.

Again, though, it would take a significant offer involving a young, top-two defenseman.
