Jets, Hutchinson haven't started contract talks

The Winnipeg Jets haven't started contract talks with goaltender Michael Hutchinson, but neither side appears concerned.

Hutchinson, 26, is in the final year of his contract and can become a restricted free agent July 1.

Hutchinson's agent, Mike Liut, told TFP negotiations "haven't started" but that given the time of year, it is "not unusual."

Contract discussions are expected to begin some time after the World Championships conclude later this month, as Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff is overseas in St. Petersburg, Russia.

The native of Barrie, Ontario, is due for a significant raise after making an average of $575,000 in each of the last two seasons in Winnipeg.

Hutchinson posted a 9-15-3 record in 30 games with the Jets this season, along with a 2.84 goals-against-average and a .907 save percentage.
