Cheveldayoff would like to add an attacking scorer to the lineup and a second line center, but those are difficult assets to acquire.
On Monday, there were whispers of the Jets inquiring over the availability of Edmonton Oilers right wing Nail Yakupov, but the Oilers aren't interested in moving him without a young star -- presumably a defenseman -- coming back in return as part of a package.
It's speculated the Oilers would want Zach Bogosian back as part of a deal for Yakupov, though a trade is not imminent.
Bogosian signed a seven-year extension on July 29, a deal that includes a no-movement clause in years three through five, and a limited no-trade clause in the final two years of his contract.
The Buffalo Sabres are dangling the likes of Thomas Vanek and Drew Stafford, though Vanek is set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer and a deal with the Jets seems very unlikely, while Stafford's $4 million salary cap hit has scared off a number of teams.
