TheFourthPeriod.com

The Winnipeg Jets have agreed to terms with restricted free agent forward Blake Wheeler on a new six-year contract worth $33.6 million.

Wheeler, 26, played in 48 games with the Jets last season, registering 19 goals and 22 assists for 41 points, and 28 penalty minutes.

He led the Jets in goals and ranked second on the club's leaderboard in overall points during the 2012-13 campaign.

The Robbinsdale, MN native has played in 372 career NHL games between Boston, Atlanta and Winnipeg, and has accumulated 93 goals and 139 assists for 232 career points, along with 228 penalty minutes.

Wheeler was originally drafted by the Phoenix Coyotes in the first round, fifth overall, of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

He was scheduled for salary arbitration next week.
