Wheeler benefited from playing overseas

Jets forward Blake Wheeler might have an edge on most of his teammates once training camp gets underway on Sunday, reports the Winnipeg Sun.

Wheeler, 26, played for the Munich Red Bulls of the German Elite League during the lockout, while most of his teammates held light practices.

He picked up six goals and 14 assists in 15 games.

"It was definitely beneficial getting those games in," he told the Sun. "There's no question game speed is different than what you can simulate and I was playing around 25 minutes a game. I'm definitely going to be ready to hit the ice flying."

Wheeler, who played on a line with Colorado Avalanche center Paul Stastny in Berlin, registered 17 goals and 47 assists for 64 points in 80 games last season, leading the Jets in total scoring.
