Capitals to host 2015 Winter Classic

One of the NHL's annual marquee events will be coming to Washington in 2015, as the Capitals will be hosting next season's Winter Classic.

According to the Washington Post, Capitals majority owner Ted Leonsis will make the announcement Saturday morning.

It's unclear who the Capitals will be playing in the 2015 Winter Classic, and the venue is also unknown, though Nationals Park, where the MLB's Nationals call home, could be the likely destination.

As the Post reports, Nationals owner Mark Lerner is a minority partner in Leonsis's Monumental Sports and Entertainment, and Nationals Park seems like a strong option.

The Capitals played in the 2011 Winter Classic at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, beating the Penguins 3-1. It was the first year of HBO's "24/7" series.

Sky Kerstein of 106.7 The Fan was the first to report that the Capitals were hosting the 2015 Winter Classic.
