The Washington Capitals have re-signed restricted free agent defenseman Karl Alzner to a four-year contract extension worth $11.2 million.
Alzner, 24, recorded one goal and four assists in 48 games during the 2012-13 season.
"We are very pleased to sign Karl Alzner to a contract extension," said Capitals GM George McPhee. "Karl is just entering his prime and has been a model of consistency for our organization since he entered the League. He plays tough and valuable minutes against some of the NHL's top players every game."
The Burnaby, British Columbia, native has collected five goals and 39 assists for 44 points, along with a plus-17 rating in 263 career NHL games.
Alzner was drafted by Washington in the first round (fifth overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
