Swedish news outlet SVT Sport has reported that Washington Capitals forward Nicklas Backstrom has agreed to join the KHL's Dynamo Moscow.
Backstrom, 24, is expected to fly to Russia Thursday evening to join teammate Alex Ovechkin, who signed with the club soon after the NHL lockout began in September.
"I want to play hockey and this will be a fun challenge," Backstrom told SVT sport. "Ovechkin's been calling since he came to Moscow."
Backstrom is now the fifth Capitals player to head to Europe during the work stoppage, joining Ovechkin, Wojtek Wolski, Michal Neuvirth and Brooks Laich.
In 42 games with the Caps last season, Backstrom posted 14 goals and 30 assists for 44 points.
