Capitals looking for depth

The Washington Capitals sit atop the Eastern Conference, but that won't keep them from bolstering their roster heading into the playoffs.

According to several reports, Capitals GM George McPhee would like to add a physical defenseman and a veteran forward before the Mar. 3 trade deadline.

The Capitals were believed to be speaking with the St. Louis Blues, among other clubs, prior to the Olympic roster freeze. The club was also supposedly interested in Carolina Hurricanes center Matt Cullen, who was dealt to the Ottawa Senators.

Goaltending has also been a concern for the club, however Jose Theodore has done enough to keep his team well in contention and Semyon Varlamov is expected to return to the lineup after the Olympics.

Among the players the Capitals are rumored to be interested in, Blues defenseman Barret Jackman and Columbus Blue Jackets winger Raffi Torres lead the list.
