Capitals interested in Morris?

TheFourthPeriod.com

The Washington Capitals are looking to make a major addition to their roster before Wednesday's 3pm ET trade deadline, sources tell TFP.

Capitals GM George McPhee is looking to add a gritty top-six winger and a top-four defenseman.

It's uncertain if the Capitals can make both additions given their proximity to the salary cap, but one source claims the Capitals are interested in Phoenix Coyotes defenseman Derek Morris.

Morris, who has a no-trade clause, is no longer skating with the Coyotes in anticipation of a deal.

According to various reports, the Capitals also inquired about Anaheim Ducks blueliner Chris Pronger.

It's also believed the Capitals are among the teams interested in New York Islanders captain Bill Guerin.

Guerin, who is also not skating with his team, might be packaged in a trade with injured center Doug Weight, according to islanderspointblank.com.

From the Editor: Washington wouldn't mind upgrading their roster to help their chances once the playoffs roll around, and Morris would fit in nicely in terms of what the Capitals would like to get their hands on. By all accounts, the Coyotes could move Morris within the next 18 hours. -- David Pagnotta.
