Capitals want Fedorov back TheFourthPeriod.com
As the Capitals wave goodbye to Matt Cooke, the team remains hopeful it can re-sign center Sergei Fedorov, reports the Washington Post.
Cooke was acquired at the trade deadline, but the team is moving in another direction and won't re-sign him.
Capitals GM George McPhee would like to keep Fedorov and admitted a new deal might take more time.
"We've talked to Sergei," McPhee told the Post. "He wants to come here and is willing to wait until some of the dust settles. We'll continue to talk to him, but we're pretty confident that we'll get something done here."
McPhee wants to re-sign its core of restricted free agents before signing Fedorov, and the Post claims that's all the team will be focused on in the coming days and weeks.
