Capitals, Green continue to talk

TheFourthPeriod.com

The Washington Capitals would like to get defenseman Mike Green locked up to a new contract, but there appears to be a few hiccups in the negotiation process.

According to those close to negotiations, there is a major gap between the two parties.

Capitals GM George McPhee and Don Meehan, Green's agent, are "involved in lengthy negotiations," a source told TFP.

Green is believed to be looking for a long-term deal, but it's uncertain if a deal will be worked out before July 1, when the blueliner officially becomes a restricted free agent.

Green is believed to be looking for around $3.5 million to $4 million per season.
