Vancouver isn't alone in their pursuit of a top-six winger, as several teams are looking for goal-scoring help.
The Los Angeles Kings, Montreal Canadiens, Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings, Ottawa Senators and St. Louis Blues are among the teams also in the market for a top-six winger.
In addition to Vanek, the Canucks have been linked to Buffalo Sabres left wing Matt Moulson, Dallas Stars veteran Ray Whitney, Florida Panthers right wing Brad Boyes and Columbus Blue Jackets sniper Marian Gaborik.
With limited salary cap space, though, the Canucks might be forced to ship a player out if they want a high-priced forward.
Boyes, however, is only making $1 million this season and would fit under the Canucks' current cap.
The Canucks have been rumored to be shopping defenseman Alexander Edler, who has a no-trade clause.
Edler was almost dealt at the NHL Draft last June, before his current contract kicked in, and will now have to approve any deal Vancouver tries to complete.
