As Cory Schneider was preparing himself for a possible trade, he ended up notifying another player that he had been dealt, the Vancouver Sun reports.
Schneider, who was the subject of numerous trade rumors leading up to the Mar. 3 trade deadline, was the first person to tell defenseman and friend Andrew Alberts that he had been dealt to the Canucks.
Alberts was at home scanning the Internet for trade updates when his phone rang.
"He said, 'I hear you're coming to Vancouver' and I'm like, 'I haven't heard a thing. Are you sure?" Alberts told the Sun. "He was the first guy to contact me and he's a real good buddy."
According to the paper, Schneider was expecting a trade and was looking forward to the possibility of cracking another NHL roster. With Roberto Luongo in Vancouver, Schneider's spent the majority of his time in the AHL.
"He has been waiting around for a while, but he's a good goaltender and we'll see what happens," Alberts said. "Hopefully, he comes up. I'd love to see him."
