Canucks make one last offer to Sedins

TheFourthPeriod.com

Vancouver Canucks GM Mike Gillis has made one final pitch to keep Daniel and Henrik Sedin offering them a long-term contract early Tuesday.

Gillis and Canucks assistant GM Lawrence Gillman met with the Sedins and their agents, J.P. Barry and Claes Elefalk, in Sweden to discuss a new contract.

The Sedins reportedly asked for a 12-year, $63 million contract, which the Canucks have apparently rejected.

The Canucks countered with another long-term deal, believed to be around the seven-year range.

It's unclear, at this point, if the Sedins will immediately accept the deal or wait to hear what other teams have to offer when the free agent market opens tomorrow at noon ET.

From the Editor: The Canucks definitely want to keep Daniel and Henrik in Vancouver, but the twins might still be willing to test the market. There's talk of the Sedins getting as much as $7 million, each, per year on a long-term deal, though that figure seems to be unrealistic for any Stanley Cup contender. -- David Pagnotta.
