Canucks waiting on Sundin TheFourthPeriod.com
Canucks GM Mike Gillis is waiting to hear back from Mats Sundin after pitching a two-year, $20 million offer, reports the Vancouver Sun.
"From all indications, he was very, very pleased we stepped up and did what we did," Gillis told the paper. "We're hoping to get more dialogue in the morning and have a positive response.
"He is a big centre who can carry a line. He's very competitive player. He has played under a lot of adversity and public scrutiny. We identified him clearly as the player we wanted to go after to have on this team."
While Sundin continues to mull over the offers he's received (the Canadiens, Leafs, Rangers and Red Wings are also very interested in him), the Canucks are hoping he chooses them.
Whether adding Sundin to be mix helps them re-sign captain Markus Naslund remains to be seen.
"It's been an interesting day," Naslund told the Sun. "Yes, I've had some offers but I can't really talk about anything right now. I have to talk to my family."
