Canucks sign Schneider, two UFAs

  The Vancouver Canucks have signed prospect goalie Cory Schneider. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Schneider, 21, signed his first pro contract after being selected by Vancouver in the first round, 26th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

The native of Marblehead, MA played the last three seasons with Boston College and led them to the NCAA Frozen Four Final in 2006-07 with a record of 29-12-1.

Schneider holds the Boston College record for shutouts in a single-season (8) and the single-season record for saves (1,088), both set in 2005-06.

   
The Canucks also announced the signings of unrestricted free agent center Byron Ritchie and winger Brad Isbister.

Terms of the deals were not released, however Isbister will earn $525,000 next season.

Ritchie, 30, comes to Vancouver after having played the 2006-07 season with the Calgary Flames where he registered eight goals, six assists and and 68 penalty minutes in 64 games.

The Burnaby, B.C. native has appeared in 253 career NHL games, registering 22 goals, 25 assists and 293 penalty minutes with three NHL teams. He was originally selected 165th overall in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft by the Hartford Whalers.

Isbister, 30, joins the Canucks after having registered one goal, four assists and 14 penalty minutes in 19 games with the New York Rangers during the 2006-07 season.

The Edmonton, Alberta native has recorded 100 goals, 111 assists and 577 penalty minutes in 486 career NHL games. He was originally drafted 67th overall in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft by the Winnipeg Jets.
