Maple Leafs acquire Boyle from Lightning

The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired forward Brian Boyle from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for forward Byron Froese and a 2017 second-round draft pick.

In 54 games with the Lightning this season, Boyle registered 13 goals and nine assists for 22 points and 48 penalty minutes.

Drafted 26th overall by the Los Angeles Kings in 2003, Boyle has accumulated 93 goals and 73 assists for 166 points and 470 penalty minutes in 603 career NHL regular-season games, to date, with the Kings, New York Rangers and Lightning.

Froese, 25, skated in two games with the Maple Leafs this season. The Winkler, Manitoba native also appeared in 48 games with the Toronto Marlies, registering 39 points (24 goals, 15 assists) and 18 penalty minutes.
