Leafs may go after for No. 1 pick

It's no secret that big changes are pending for the Toronto Maple Leafs this off-season, including potentially gunning for this year's No. 1 overall pick.

After winning the first overall pick on April 15, Florida Panthers GM Dale Tallon told Sportnet The Fan 590 on May 2 that he would be shopping the pick.

"I definitely will [be shopping the pick], especially this year," he explained. "We had a couple of nibbles the day after we won [the lottery]. There were a couple guys calling to bust my chops, asking 'what are you going to do?' And that's fine. It's a good thing."

With the Leafs inevitable off-season changes, Damien Cox of the Toronto Star speculates that the club could potentially entertain the idea of trading for the Panthers pick.

Cox suggests defenseman Jake Gardiner or center Nazem Kadri could be seen as trade bait in exchange for the first overall pick.

The Leafs currently have the No. 8 pick in this year's draft.

In an April 30 interview with Tim and Sid on Sportnet The Fan 590, MLSE President and CEO Tim Leiweke made it clear that no one on the Leafs is untradeable.
