Major trade unlikely for Toronto

The Maple Leafs aren't expected to pull the trigger on a major blockbuster trade by the March 5 trade deadline, according to Leafs GM Dave Nonis.

In an interview with the Toronto Sun, Nonis indicated that a big trade probably isn't in the cards.

"I don't anticipate us making any major moves," Nonis told the newspaper. "And I definitely don't see us getting involved in a rent-a-player transaction that sees us move resources for someone we only have for a handful of weeks."

With center Dave Bolland set to return from injury, the Leafs feel his return to the lineup will help give them a boost and keep the team on the right track.

It had been widely reported that the Leafs were trying to package center Nazem Kadri for a No.1 center, and while that could still be explored in the off-season, completing such a move now seems unrealistic.

"You're always looking to get better," he said. "But it has to be a hockey deal. It has to make sense long term while helping us now as well."
