Leafs, Phaneuf working on final details

The Toronto Maple Leafs are ironing out the final remaining details of captain Dion Phaneuf's seven-year, $49 million contract extension.

Multiple media outlets have reported that the two sides have agreed on term and dollars, but the language of Phaneuf's no-movement and no-trade clauses need to be finalized.

Phaneuf, 28, has one-year remaining on his current deal, which comes with a salary cap hit of $6.5 million.

His new deal will see him make an average of $7 million, per year, over the course of the contract, though he will earn more money in the earlier years.

The Leafs and Phaneuf's agents have been working on an extension since the start of the regular-season and it's believed a new deal could be ironed out by Monday.

In 38 games with the Leafs so far this season, Phaneuf has collected three goals and 11 assists for 14 points, along with 48 penalty minutes and a plus-10 rating.
