Burke wants to make changes

Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke knows his team is struggling and if the team can't find a way to win now, he's going to be forced to restructure the way he's built his roster.

Speaking on The Fan590 radio station in Toronto this morning, Burke confirmed his disappointment with how poorly the Leafs have been playing.

"We're scratching and clawing right now, not having any success at all," Burke told The Fan590.

"What we're doing now is playing well for somewhere between 50-54 minutes a night, and it's not good enough."

The Leafs have lost five of their last seven games and have been outscored 26-16 in that same span. It has been widely reported that Burke has been trying to complete a trade or two, with the belief that at least one move could come when the NHL's holiday roster freeze lifts Dec. 27.

"We've got to figure out if this group is going to be able to turn this thing around," Burke said. "If not, we need to make some changes when we come out of the trade freeze after Christmas."

Tomas Kaberle, Francois Beauchemin, Mikhail Grabovski, Fredrik Sjostrom and Mike Komisarek have all been linked to trade speculation this season.

Kaberle and Komisarek both have limited no-trade clauses and would have to approve any deal the Leafs try to make.
