With several offers coming across his desk, Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke has been patient in trading away veteran defenseman Tomas Kaberle.
Kaberle, who will make $4.25 million next season, has a window in his no-trade clause, allowing the Leafs to move him without his consent, which expires Aug. 15.
The Toronto Sun reported on its website Friday morning that as many as six to 10 teams are seriously interested in Kaberle.
Burke was on Toronto sports radio station The Fan 590 this morning and confirmed several teams are interested in his player.
"There are a large number of teams in, and we've received a significant number of offers," he said, "but we're talking about a pretty good player here and we're not giving him away."
The Leafs want to acquire a top-six forward for Kaberle, 32, who was almost traded to the Philadelphia Flyers two years ago for center Jeff Carter.
While Burke confirmed that "we're looking for a forward with size and scoring ability," he also indicated that he's received offers that include "a high draft pick and a quality young player."
In 82 games with the Leafs last season, Kaberle recorded seven goals and 42 assists for 49 points.
The four-time All-Star has played in 820 career regular-season games, all with the Leafs, and has accumulated 80 goals and 402 assists for 482 points.
Kaberle was originally drafted by the Maple Leafs in the eighth round (204th overall) of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.
