Kaberle would have accepted trade

Defenseman Tomas Kaberle made it known that he would have been willing to waive his no-trade clause for three specific teams, but when push came to shove, the Maple Leafs couldn't complete a deal they liked.

"His agent, who is a good guy, whispered to us that there were three locations where he was very interested in going and could we explore those," Burke told reporters yesterday. "We did and there wasn't a deal."

Kaberle, 32, has one-year remaining on his contract beyond this season and while Burke hinted at the possibility of signing him to an extension, there is a good chance the Leafs will deal him this summer.

Kaberle has a window in his contract that allows Toronto to trade him, without the need for prior consent, should the team miss the playoffs.

The Leafs tried to take advantage of that clause last summer, when they almost traded him to Boston.
