The Maple Leafs are inching closer to trading away veteran winger Alexei Ponikarovsky, who is in the final year of his current contract.

Toronto GM Brian Burke and senior VP of hockey operations Dave Nonis have been busy working the phones and evaluating offers for a number of players, including Ponikarovsky.

The Los Angeles Kings, Pittsburgh Penguins and Nashville Predators are among the teams to have serious interest in the 29-year-old.

Various reports suggest the Leafs are looking for a first-round pick in exchange for Ponikarovsky, though it's believed Burke is willing to accept a second-round pick and a top prospect.

Forwards Wayne Primeau and Lee Stempniak have also attracted interest from around the league, while defensemen Garnet Exelby, Jonas Frogren and Jeff Finger may also be on the move before tomorrow's 3pm ET deadline.
