Kaberle still wants to stay

Maple Leafs star defenseman Tomas Kaberle hasn't changed his mind, he still wants to stay in Toronto and doesn't want to waive his no-trade clause.

Kaberle has been the subject of many trade rumors over the last two seasons. Leafs GM Brian Burke has indicated that he will not ask Kaberle to waive his no-trade clause, but numerous reports claim otherwise.

"Nothing changed on my side so we'll see," Kaberle told AM640 in Toronto.

Kaberle has a window in his contract that allows the Leafs to freely trade him during the summer if the team misses the playoffs.

Burke has hinted that he may look to move Kaberle within that timeframe, but insists a deal won't happen during the season.

The Leafs, meanwhile, appear more likely to be closing in on a trade for veteran forward Alexei Ponikarovsky.

Ponikarovsky is in the final year of his contract and is reportedly being courted by the Pittsburgh Penguins and Nashville Predators, among others.

Also likely to be dealt prior to Wednesday's 3pm ET trade deadline are forwards Wayne Primeau and Lee Stempniak, and defenseman Garnet Exelby.
