The Toronto Maple Leafs stepped up with a significant offer to win the Mike Komisarek sweepstakes.
Komisarek, 27, has signed a five-year contract with Toronto worth $22.5 million.
"We are extremely pleased to add a player with Mike's ability and leadership qualities to our lineup," said Leafs GM Brian Burke. "He's a respected competitor in this league and we know that he will bring his hard-nosed approach to our team on a consistent basis."
In 66 games with Montreal last season he recorded two goals and nine assists.
In 361 career NHL games, Komisarek has 12 goals, 46 assists and 58 points with 496 minutes in penalties. The native of West Islip, New York was originally Montreal’s first choice, 7th overall, in the 2001 Entry Draft.
