Panthers GM Jacques Martin refused to comment on the reports.
"You know I don't comment on rumors," Martin told the Herald. "If I did, that's all I would do."
The only remaining stumbling block is the Leafs' willingness, or reported lack thereof, to pay McCabe a $2 million bonus due Sept. 1.
Once payment is made, the deal can go through, according to Sporstnet.
The Panthers would then be responsible for paying the balance of McCabe's contract ($4.15 million, which is the same salary figure he will receive in 2009-10 and 2010-11), but his salary cap hit remains $5.75 million.
Van Ryn, 29, has not been informed of any move, just yet.
"I haven't heard anything, so I still consider myself a Florida Panther,"' Van Ryn told the Herald. "[Toronto] would be home, I guess, but my home is here. It would be quite an adjustment. But whatever happens, happens. If the Panthers want to move me, they will. But I like it here. I'm just going on about my business."
