Sundin decision coming in 2 weeks

TheFourthPeriod.com

According to the Toronto Sun, Mats Sundin expects to make a decision on where he will play next season within the next two weeks.

Sundin has been contemplating a return to the NHL, and has been weighing his options should he decide to return.

"I will make a decision in the end of July or beginning of August," Sundin told Stockholm's Aftonbladet newspaper.

"If I am going to play it's for the full season and I want to be there from the beginning of August."

The Montreal Canadiens, Vancouver Canucks and Maple Leafs are believed to be the frontrunners for Sundin, however the Sun suggests it could come down to the Leafs and Canucks.

"The Maple Leafs are not out of the picture if I decide to play," Sundin said.

"They made me a very good offer, even if it isn't even close to what the Canucks have offered.

"But I have been in Toronto for 13 seasons and it is like home to me."

The Leafs and Habs have offered deals worth around $7 million, annually, in comparison to the two-year, $20 million contract the Canucks have pitched to Sundin.

"I will start thinking of the offers the day I decide to go on for another season," Sundin said. "I have to be sure that I have the energy to go through another season at this level."

At this stage, nobody really knows what direction Sundin will take... not even Mats. He's back from his annual fishing trip (in northern Sweden), and he'll take the next two weeks to analyze his situation and make a decision. Many of those in the hockey world believe he'll return. It's just a matter of where.
