Nonis a leading candidate for Leafs? TheFourthPeriod.com
The Toronto Maple Leafs met with former Vancouver Canucks GM Dave Nonis yesterday, and the two sides are expected to chat again today.
Nonis has received interest from the Atlanta Thrashers and St. Louis Blues, and TSN.ca reports the Blues' management brass already met with Nonis on Monday.
The Toronto Sun reports of whispers suggesting the Leafs would like to hire Nonis to run the team alongside interim GM Cliff Fletcher.
However, citing sources in Vancouver, the Sun claims Nonis has no interest in becoming an associate of assistant GM.
Nonis and the Leafs will meet later today, and it's believed Nonis is currently the leading candidate for the position.
Meanwhile, the Sun reports there's no guarantee restricted free agent Kyle Wellwood will receive a qualifying offer from the Leafs.
"It might depend on who the new GM is, but I would expect one," Wellwood's agent, Mike Liut, told the paper.
