Leafs trade Belak, Gill and Kilger

TheFourthPeriod.com

On the day of the 2008 trade deadline, the Toronto Maple Leafs have traded defenseman Wade Belak and forward Chad Kilger to the Florida Panthers, in two separate deals, and also moved defenseman Hal Gill to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Belak was traded to the Panthers in exchange for their fifth-round pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, while Kilger was moved for their third-round pick in 2008.

Gill went to the Penguins in exchange for their second-round draft pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft and their fifth-round pick in 2009.

Belak, 31, has appeared in 30 games for the Maple Leafs in 2007-08 and has one goal and 66 penalty minutes.

Gill, 32, has two goals and 18 assists and 53 minutes in penalties in 63 games this season, his second with the Maple Leafs. Gill signed with Toronto as an unrestricted free agent July 1, 2006.

Kilger, 31, has appeared in 53 games for the Maple Leafs in 2007-08 and has 10 goals and seven assists with 18 penalty minutes. Kilger joined the Maple Leafs off waivers from Montreal on March 9, 2004.
