The pending unrestricted free agent is currently in his final year of a three-year, $12 million deal.
Callahan's agent, Steve Bartlett, told ESPN that he spoke with Bolts GM Steve Yzerman regarding an extension. According to Bartlett, Yzerman made it clear they'd like to talk about an extension.
"Yeah, we'd love to sign him," Yzerman told ESPN. "He's a good fit, a good person, a good player, has style of play that really complements our group well; he’s fit in really well. So we hope to sign him. But we won’t talk until after the year."
Callahan was unable to work out a contract extension with his former club, and was rumored to be asking around $6.5 million a season.
Callahan has six goals and four assists in his 14 games with the Lightning, so far this season.
