Lightning looking to deal TheFourthPeriod.com
The Tampa Bay Lightning would like to make a few more moves before training camp, but nothing is around to talk to them.
"We have the assets," Lightning owner Oren Koules told the St. Petersburg Times. "Nobody is around."
According to the paper, the Lightning needs to trade to trim their payroll and salary cap number, however most of the league's GMs and management staff go on vacation during the August month.
In addition to trying to shed salary, the club is also hoping to add a defenseman before the new season begins.
The Lightning is not above the league-imposed $56.7 million salary cap figure, and has just over $1 million to play with, but the team was hoping to work around a self-imposed cap of around $48 million.
While it's unlikely the team will trade away $7.5 million worth of salary, they are weighing their options.
According to reports, forwards Jussi Jokinen, Michel Ouellet and Jason Ward could be on the move, while Koules denied speculation that Ryan Craig could be dealt.
