While Bazos acknowledged he's heard rumors surrounding Boyle's future in Tampa, he didn't sound like he was preparing his client for a move.
"He's staying put," Bazos told the Times. "You can't replace Dan. . . . When rational people sit down and take a look at it and say, realistically, if they want to move Dan, how are they making the team better, they can't do it."
Bazos admitted to receiving a call from the Lightning on Tuesday, but said, "It's not their intention to move Dan. They're going to try to work out whatever they need to work out in other ways."
Boyle, who signed a six-year, $40 million contract extension in February, is supposedly being coveted by the Senators. The Ottawa Sun recently reported the Sens might be willing to part with Andrej Meszaros and Antoine Vermette for Boyle.
Lightning co-owner Oren Koules declined comment, only to tell the Times, "We think [Boyle's] the best puck-moving defenseman in the league."
Meanwhile, the Tampa Tribune reports the Lightning are trying to sign goalie Mike Smith to a contract extension.
