Shattenkirk inks four-year, $17M contract

The St. Louis Blues have agreed to terms on a four-year, $17 million contract with defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk.

Shattenkirk, 24, dressed in all 48 games with the Blues this season, ranking second among team defensemen in points (23).

The Greenwich, Connecticut native will earn an average of $4.25 million per season on his new deal.

Since entering the NHL in 2010, Shattenkirk ranks fourth among all American-born defensemen in points (109) and is fifth in both goals (23) and assists (86).

He was originally acquired by the Blues, along with right wing Chris Stewart, from the Colorado Avalanche on Feb. 19, 2011.

Shattenkirk was drafted by Colorado in the first round (14th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
