The Blues came close to dealing forwards Keith Tkachuk and David Perron to the Boston Bruins before yesterday's trade deadline, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

According to the paper, the Blues had a deal in place with the Bruins, but the trade fell apart and Tkachuk wasn't even asked to waive his no-trade clause.

"Sometimes you're better off as organization not doing a whole lot," Blues President John Davidson told the Post-Dispatch. "Our team has played extremely well recently. We've got good chemistry, we've got a good (locker) room and it wasn't affected."

Davidson acknowledged the Blues were involved in a variety of scenarios, including both buying and selling players.

"I wouldn't say we were overly busy, but we had some very intriguing discussions," he said.

The Blues never asked Paul Kariya to waive his no-trade clause, either.

"I was never approached," Kariya told the Post-Dispatch.

Meanwhile, one player who thought he may have been moved was goalie Chris Mason, who is in the final year of his contract.

"I saw a number call me this morning that I didn't recognize, and usually I don't answer it, but I thought, 'Oh, I better answer it,'" Mason told the paper. "It ended up being nothing hockey related, so that was good."

The Blues were also shopping forward Brad Boyes, who was reportedly dangled as bait for Montreal Canadiens goalie Jaroslav Halak.

"It's tough to hear that they might be kind of putting your name out there and shopping you around," Boyes told the Post-Dispatch. "That part is a little disappointing, but it's over with and I'm still going to do what I can to help this team get into the playoffs."
