Sharks GM quietly shopping
TheFourthPeriod.com

The San Jose Sharks are interested in adding to their roster, and GM Doug Wilson is nonchalantly fishing around to see what is available.

It's believed Wilson would like to add a mobile defenseman and a depth forward with a scoring touch before the March 5 trade deadline.

According to various published reports, the Sharks have spoken to the New York Rangers about defenseman Michael Del Zotto, but it's unclear how those talks have progressed.

Del Zotto, 23, has played better of late for the Rangers, but the team is still dangling him on the trade block.

The Sharks currently rank fifth in the NHL in goals-per-game, but injuries have pilled up.

With rookie Tomas Hertl out possible for the entire season, winger Martin Havlat on the IR, and star Logan Couture on the shelf for at least six weeks, the Sharks would like to add someone up front to help them put the puck in the net.

It's unclear who the Sharks are currently targeting, but Wilson does have a few options if he is looking to acquire the proverbial rental player.

The Edmonton Oilers are taking calls on forwards Ales Hemsky and Ryan Smyth, the Calgary Flames are shopping forwards Michael Cammalleri, recently diagnosed with a concussion, Lee Stempniak and Matt Stajan, the Florida Panthers have made Brad Boyes available, and the Buffalo Sabres will take calls on Matt Moulson.
