"We wanted both players and there was a reason," Wilson told the paper. "The complete factor."
There was also renewed dialogue between the Sharks and Columbus Blue Jackets regarding top-forward Rick Nash. The Jackets' captain has listed San Jose as a go-to team, based on the desire to play with his good friend Joe Thornton.
However, the Blue Jackets demanded forward Logan Couture in any deal, and the Sharks were never going to pay that price.
While Jamie McGinn's departure to Colorado could affect the club's chemistry, Wilson expects the change in the locker room to motivate his team for its final 21 games of the regular season.
The Sharks are also awaiting to get some injured players back on the ice , including Douglas Murray and Dominic Moore, and Marty Havlat returning later in March, to help the team hold on to a playoff spot as it currently sits in seventh place of the Western Conference.
