Burns hurt in shootout loss
TheFourthPeriod.com

Sharks defenseman Brent Burns suffered a knee injury during Monday's 2-1 shootout loss to the Edmonton Oilers, which could cause him to miss an extended period of time, the San Jose Mercury News reports.

The 26-year-old had to be taken off the ice in the third period after a knee-on-knee collision with Oilers winger Ales Hemsky, who received a five minute penalty and a game misconduct.

"The doctors are still evaluating him," Sharks coach Todd McLellan told the News. "I know he doesn't feel good, and I would doubt that he's going to play for us (Tuesday). It's knee on knee, he doesn't return, and he's not walking very well."

The star blueliner commented on the hit following the contest, while still feeling the discomfort of the injury.

"You feel pretty hot, and I thought I was going to throw up," Burns said of the pain. "It happens. It's a quick game, it's a quick reaction. I've been on the other end. It's not his fault. I know that."

In 46 games with the Sharks this season, Burns has tallied seven goals and 10 assists for 17 points, and a plus-10 rating.
