The San Jose Sharks aren't giving up that easily, as the team continues its attempts to acquire defenseman Niclas Wallin from the Carolina Hurricanes.
Wallin, who is in the final year of his contract, has a no-trade clause and appears set on waiving it providing the Sharks sign him to an extension.
A deal was expected to be announced Friday, but Wallin refused to waive his no-trade clause without a new contract. The Hurricanes and Sharks have a trade worked out for Wallin, but it's conditional on the 34-year-old accepting the deal.
Wallin's agent, Paul Theofanous, has been negotiating a new contract with Sharks GM Doug Wilson.
The native of Boden, Sweden, is making $1.725 million this season.
