The San Jose Sharks have signed unrestricted free agent center Manny Malhotra to a one-year contract. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Malhotra, 29, registered a career-high 35 points (11 goals, 24 assists) and was a plus-nine with the Columbus Blue Jackets last season.
In 634 NHL games with the New York Rangers, Dallas and Columbus, Malhotra has accumulated 76 goals, 121 assists and 344 penalty minutes.
The native of Mississauga, Ontario was originally selected by the New York Rangers in the first round (7th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

A strong addition for the Sharks. I'm not sure what took Manny so long to find a new home, maybe the right offers weren't coming in, but this is a great pick up for San Jose. -- David Pagnotta
