Sharks acquire Boyle from Lightning

TheFourthPeriod.com

Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Dan Boyle has agreed to waive his no-trade clause and has officially been traded to the San Jose Sharks, TFP has confirmed.

The Sharks have acquired Boyle and fellow defenseman Brad Lukowich in exchange for rearguard Matt Carle, defensive prospect Ty Wishart, a first-round draft pick in 2009 and a fourth-round selection in 2010.

Boyle, who signed a six-year, $40 million contract extension in February, scored four goals and added 21 assists in 37 games with the Lightning last season.

Boyle's agent, George Bazos, told TFP his client felt a little disappointed when first approached by the Lightning to waive his no-trade clause, but is very excited to be joining the Sharks and as they will battle for the Stanley Cup.

In 523 career NHL games with the Florida Panthers and Lightning, Boyle has accumulated 76 goals and 216 assists for 292 points.

Lukowich, 31, had a goal and six assists in 59 games with Tampa last year.

He was played in 582 career NHL games with Dallas, Tampa Bay, New Jersey and the NY Islanders, and has registered 22 goals and 81 assists for 103 points.

Carle, 22, tallied two goals and 13 assists in 62 games with the Sharks in 2007-08.

The native of Anchorage, Alaska, has played in 151 NHL games, all with the Sharks, and has notched 16 goals and 47 assists for 63 points. He was drafted 47th overall by the Sharks in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

Wishart, 20, was drafted 16th overall by the Sharks in the 2003 draft.

The native of Belleville, Ontario, split last season between the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League and the AHL's Worcester Sharks.
