Sharks to meet with Campbell's agent

TheFourthPeriod.com

San Jose Sharks GM Doug Wilson told TFP he is staying in Ottawa, home of this year's draft, to meet with defenseman Brian Campbell's agent Larry Kelly.

Campbell can become an unrestricted free agent July 1 and the Sharks would like to sign him to a long-term contract.

Wilson would not discuss the terms he'd like to present Campbell. Sources tell TFP the Sharks would like to sign the mobile defenseman to a four- or five-year deal worth around $6 million per season.

Sources tell TFP the Sharks have granted select Eastern Conference teams permission to speak with Campbell and his agent before July 1 so that he can get a better understanding of his market value.

Meanwhile, Wilson downplayed rumors that he's trying to trade center Patrick Marleau. While he admitted that teams have inquired about his captain's availability, Wilson refused to comment on whether trade talks will continue.
