Maatta signs 6-year, $24.5 million extension

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed defenseman Olli Maatta to a six-year, $24.5 million contract extension.

Maatta, 21, has registered six goals and 10 assists for 16 points and a plus-18 in 53 games.

His annual salary cap hit, which kicks in next season, is $4.083 million.

A native of Jyvaskyla, Finland, Matta has played in 151 career NHL regular-season games, to date, and has accumulated 16 goals and 38 assists for 54 points.

The Penguins chose Maatta in the first round (22nd overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
