Pens, Sutter inching closer to deal

Contract talks between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the agents for Brandon Sutter appear to be moving in a favorable direction.

Sutter, 25, is coming off a three-year, $6.2 million contract and is a year away from unrestricted free agency.

In 81 games with the Penguins last season, Sutter registered 13 goals and 13 assists for 26 points.

It's believed negotiations have been positive and that a contract could be ironed out as early as later this week.

Penguins GM Jim Rutherford is hoping to get Sutter signed to a long-term agreement, in the five-year range.

The Penguins acquired Sutter, along with Brian Dumonlin and a first-round draft pick in 2012 on June 22, 2012 from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Jordan Staal.
