Downie signs with Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed unrestricted free agent right wing Steve Downie to a one-year, $1 million contract.

Downie, 27, registered four goals and 20 assists for 24 points, along with 106 penalty minutes, in 62 games with the Colorado Avalanche and Philadelphia Flyers last season.

In 336 career NHL regular-season games with the Flyers, Tampa Bay Lightning and Avalanche, Downie has accumulated 59 goals and 103 assists for 162 points, along with 766 penalty minutes.

Downie was originally drafted 29th overall by the Flyers in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
