Penguins sign Ehrhoff to 1-year deal

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed unrestricted free agent defenseman Christian Ehrhoff to a one-year, $4 million contract.

Ehrhoff, 31, was originally seeking a five-year contract, but settled for a one-year deal with Pittsburgh.

In 79 games with the Sabres this past season, Ehrhoff registered six goals and 27 assists for 33 points.

Ehrhoff signed a 10-year, $40 million contract with the Sabres on June 20, 2011, but was bought out on June 29.

Originally selected in the fourth round (106th overall) by the San Jose Sharks at the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Ehrhoff has scored 69 goals and 244 assists in 692 career games with the Sharks, Sabres and Vancouver Canucks.
